Cosmetic Acupuncture or Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation has a long history of existence. It gained its refined form in the Song Dynasty (960-1280 A.D.). During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.), Li Shi Zhen wrote the Materia Medica (Ben Cao Gang Mu) in which specific chapters were devoted to the individual and specific treatment of facial features such as the eyes, nose, lips, teeth and hair as well as issues of how to treat the complexion and wrinkles. Herbal preparations for the treatment of these areas and issues were outlined in the book as well.
Cosmetic Acupuncture consists of a series of treatments over a longer period of time. Our acupuncturist, who is Certified in Cosmetic Acupuncture, will perform a complete evaluation and assessment of each individual patient to determine the amount of treatments that are appropriate for that individual’s condition. Other therapies such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based nutritional guidelines, cupping, gua sha and herbs maybe be used in conjunction with cosmetic acupuncture. Finally the cosmetic acupuncture treatment involves not only the face, but the whole body as well, and so acupuncture points on the body maybe chosen to facilitate the cosmetic acupuncture process.
